Thousands of life-size Chinese terracotta warriors and horses astonished the world upon their discovery at the tomb of Qin-shi-huang-di (the first emperor of China). Having become the “eighth” wonder of the world, they express vividly how the Qin people viewed life and death. The terracotta warriors and horse represent the desire of Qin-shi-huang-di to dominate and command China’s military forces even after his death. The warriors and horses reflect the martial attitude of the Qin people, as well as displaying the creative power of their art.

Each beautifully sculpted chess piece, from the simple pawn to the king, is an exact replia of the life-size Warriors an horses discovered in all three pits, including the terracotta scholars, soldiers, and archers. Even both knights are exact replicas of the life-size chariot horses of bronze discovered at Qin-shi-huang-di’s tomb. The king, of course, is based entirely on the age of Qin-shi-huang-di, while his queen is designed based on the age of the Qin-shi-huang-di’s real-life queen.
